Our Club
Poole Piranhas Basketball Club has been officially registered as a Basketball England junior club under the Dorset Basketball Association since 2018.
Our training sessions are split into appropriate age and ability categories so that players feel more comfortable and confident as they learn. We also have Under 10s (U10s), Under 12s (U12s), Under 14s (U14s), Under 16s (U16s) and Under 18s (U18s) teams that compete with other ‘Local League’ teams.
Our friendly experienced coaching team makes each session educational yet fun. We have a great range of equipment and session types to suit players of all skill levels. Also each player can purchase their own branded Poole Piranhas kit, customised with their name and number.
We closely follow the official Jr.NBA™ curriculum and Basketball England’s ‘Player Development Framework’. We work through 4 core skill areas, focussing on 1 core skill per month; Shooting, Passing, Ball Handling and Defence.
Parents and players can rest assured that our sessions utilise many of the 250+ official drills from NBA/WNBA players, legends, coaches, and strength and conditioning personnel that these materials cover.

Players may optionally be assessed at any time at different levels – Rookie, Starter, All-Star and MVP – and receive one of our ‘Player Development Pathway’ certificates.
Our Locations
Our regular weekend programme is run at The Bourne Academy which is specially adapted for full court and cross-court basketball.
The centre benefits from free onsite parking, toilets, changing rooms and an outdoor seating area.
Our regular week day programme is run at The Cornerstone Academy which is specially adapted for full court and cross-court basketball.

Our Coaches
Our coaches are DBS checked, Safeguarding certified and are Basketball England coaching standards qualified.
Coach John Le Page is club owner and a Basketball England Level 2 Coach.
Coach Darren Henstridge is a Basketball England Level 2 Coach, and heads up all of our DBA teams.
Our coaches are supported by several Assistant and Junior coaches during weekend training and events.
